The opportunity

Now’s the ideal time to join Scottish Enterprise’s Graduate Development Programme as part of our legal team. It’s from here that high-quality legal advice, assurance and leadership are provided to enable Scottish Enterprise to continue its missions strategy and delivery. Our team works across multiple projects – delivering a responsive and exceptional legal service focused on outcomes, prioritisation, productivity, innovation and collaborative working.

The role

As a Graduate Legal Operations Specialist, you’ll help us provide the operational, budgetary and project management support that drives Scotland’s economic growth. This means you’ll need a blend of people skills and technical ability to help you understand and analyse needs, identify problems and share in the development of solutions. You’ll also be able to study as part of a training programme to become an accredited paralegal.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Monitoring service delivery according to agreed measures and procedures
  • Representing the legal team and its work by building relationships across Scottish Enterprise, as well as with other bodies such as our partner legal firms
  • Critically reviewing and suggesting improvements to our existing processes and procedures, defining success measures and working with the team to implement changes

Who we're looking for

You’ll need to be comfortable working in a multi-disciplinary team in a fast-paced and challenging environment where innovation is strongly encouraged. Multiple projects will mean having to frequently re-prioritise your workload to meet expectations. In addition, you will:

  • Have qualifications or skills and experience at SCQF Level 9 as a minimum, e.g. BA, ordinary degree, graduate diploma or SVQ at Level 9 (ideally in law, business or finance)
  • Enjoy working with people to turn team needs into workable solutions
  • Organise your work, track progress (your own and your team’s) and know what’s coming up next
  • Resolve any conflicting timescales and priorities so you continue to deliver efficiently
  • Always want to know why things are how they are – and crucially, look for ways to improve them
  • Be a skilful communicator in a challenging environment and engage positively at all levels
Have commercial awareness and be able to develop relationships across the legal team

Ideally, but not essentially, you’ll also have:

  • Working knowledge of Excel

What we offer

If successful, you'll gain access to the following benefits:

  • Membership of the Scottish Enterprise Pension and Life Assurance Scheme – a pension based on your final pensionable salary, flexible retirement options and generous life assurance cover
  • Up to 43 annual leave days a year (including public holidays), with the opportunity to buy additional holidays
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • A health cash plan
  • Our Employee Retail Benefits Scheme
  • Our Employee Assistance Scheme
