Be part of building Scotland's future

Scottish Enterprise is Scotland's national and international economic development agency. We work to transform the Scottish economy by helping businesses to innovate and scale. The opportunity

This is a fantastic opportunity to join Scottish Enterprise’s Graduate Development Programme in a role that can make a difference to Scotland’s economy. Bring us a willingness to learn and develop the skills and techniques necessary to carry out economic impact assessments, and you’ll be part of our Appraisal and Evaluation team – supporting colleagues right across Scottish Enterprise. Prove yourself, and you’ll eventually be confident enough to deliver assessments on your own after a period of mentoring.

The role

You’ll help colleagues carry out project appraisals and evaluations as you work with your team to improve the effectiveness of our activities. As someone who’s intellectually curious, you’ll want to learn why things are the way they are and what can be done to effect change. You’ll do this by working across Scottish Enterprise with people at all levels as you develop an in-depth knowledge of our operations. This means you’ll need a blend of excellent people skills and diplomacy. You’ll also need a proactive approach to zeroing in on opportunities beneficial to Scottish Enterprise.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing the skills and expertise needed to deliver project appraisals, so you can estimate the potential economic impacts of supporting companies and sectors
  • Delivering evaluations to estimate the impact of past economic developmental support

Who we're looking for

Qualified to SCQF level 9 (degree or graduate diploma) in economics or a subject with a significant economics content, you’ll join us with knowledge of the economies of both Scotland and the UK – including some understanding of the public sector’s role in growing these economies.

You’ll be proficient with Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and will know how to produce effective infographics. Experience of using statistical packages such as SPSS would also be useful.

Ideally, but not essentially, you’ll also have:

  • Experience of using other software packages such as PowerBI
  • Knowledge and experience of Government economic data sets and their uses
  • An understanding of econometric analysis (its advantages and shortcomings)
  • Some working experience in an area related to this position

What we offer

If successful, you'll gain access to the following benefits:

  • Membership of the Scottish Enterprise Pension and Life Assurance Scheme – a pension based on your final pensionable salary, flexible retirement options and generous life assurance cover
  • Up to 43 annual leave days a year (including public holidays), with the opportunity to buy additional holidays
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • A health cash plan
  • Our Employee Retail Benefits Scheme
  • Our Employee Assistance Scheme
